The problemForever Barnwood sold reclaimed wood flooring off a mailing list of about 59,000 people, spread across nine separate Mailchimp lists built up over years. Nobody knew how much of it overlapped, or how much of it was still alive. Our solutionWe merged all nine lists into one and stripped out everyone who had bounced or unsubscribed. Then we asked a better question: who actually picks a wood floor? Not just the builder — also the interior designer, the architect and the cabinet shop. So we built four separate lists, one per trade, nationwide. About 530,000 people, roughly nine times what Forever Barnwood started with. The striking part: our first new list and their old list shared exactly 2 email addresses — almost every person we found was someone they had never once been able to contact. About 397,000 are confirmed working addresses. |

The problemMotoShot sells moving targets to police ranges and had about 123,000 contacts — a misleading number. Only about 58,000 were still reachable: roughly 58,000 addresses had gone dead and about 7,000 people had unsubscribed. MotoShot was working with under half of what it thought it had. Our solutionWe rebuilt it from scratch and split what looked like one market into seven different kinds of buyer, because each is approached differently: city and county police, university campus police, training academies, private firearms instructors, commercial security firms, gun clubs and ranges, and military bases. About 923,000 contacts — roughly 7.5 times MotoShot's original list, or about 16 times the part of it that still worked. Those lists have brought in over 4,600 replies so far. |

Beforenothing Now34,000 |
∞×from nothing | |
The problemGreat Lakes Solar installs commercial solar, and solar only sells to whoever owns the roof — a tenant renting a unit cannot sign off on panels. So the only question that matters is which Minnesota businesses own their building. That list was not for sale at any price. Nobody sells “businesses that own the building they occupy” — not DataMoon, not anyone, because it is not a category any data vendor keeps. Our own first attempt checked companies we already had, one by one: about 14,600 checked, only 1,800 owners found. Far too low to be the real answer. Our solutionWe were asking it backwards. Instead of starting with companies we happened to know and asking “do they own a building?”, we started with the property records and asked “who owns every commercial building in Minnesota?” County deeds are a complete record, not a sample. We pulled all of them, removed government and non-profit property, and worked out the real owner behind each one. About 34,000 Minnesota business owners holding roughly 52,600 commercial and industrial buildings across 32 counties — about nineteen times what our own first attempt could find, and the only version of this list that exists. Every building has map coordinates, so the roof can be looked at before anyone dials, and about 33,000 carry the owner's mailing address off the deed. The buildings are worth about $93 billion, with an estimated $780 million a year in electricity — the number that decides whether solar pays. |

Mississippi Valley RERecreational land & country propertyBeforenothing Now38,000 |
∞×from nothing | |
The problemMississippi Valley RE sells hunting land and country property, and its buyer is a person, not a company. This list was not for sale at any price. No vendor anywhere — DataMoon included — sells “wealthy people who hunt”. Mississippi Valley RE started with nothing, because nothing existed to start with. Our solutionWe built one sideways out of three public sources stitched together. We took 214 hunting-related Instagram accounts and collected who follows them — about 7.5 million follower records. We matched those names against the Wisconsin and Minnesota business registries (about 2.1 million businesses) to find who owns a company, then matched those against county property records to see what land they hold. About 38,000 land prospects, including 12,700 confirmed hunters. Within those, 494 people own $5 million or more in property — together about 374,000 acres worth roughly $5.5 billion. Those 494 names are the ones worth a phone call, and they exist nowhere else. |

GodExaminedU.S. churches & ministriesBeforenothing Now137,000 |
∞×from nothing | |
The problemGodExamined needed to reach churches and had no list at all. The obvious approach is to search a business directory for the word “church” — and that approach is badly wrong in both directions at once. Our solutionWe used the IRS instead. Every tax-exempt organisation in America sits in one public file, and the IRS gives churches their own code. So rather than guessing from a name, we let each organisation's own IRS filing say what it is. We read all 1.96 million records and kept the ones the IRS itself classifies as a church. About 137,000 contacts at roughly 83,000 churches. We also measured what the obvious approach would have cost: searching by name would have missed about 110,000 real churches — nearly 4 in 10, because many are called things like St Mary's, The Rock or Grace Fellowship — and would have wrongly added about 40,000 that are not churches at all, like the company Church & Dwight. The first 583 emails brought back 131 replies, a 22% reply rate. |

True North FacadesArchitectural glass & facadesRoutes2,100 Coverage100% |
3.5×bigger firms | |
The problemTrue North Facades sells glass and facade systems into large commercial construction. The people who choose those products are architects and specifiers at commercial general contractors — and that group almost never publishes a direct email address. There is also no single directory of commercial GCs to buy. Our solutionWe did it the long way, by hand. We went city by city and town by town across the Midwest — roughly 800 towns through Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota — and listed every commercial general contractor in each one, plus the architecture firms and the roofing and waterproofing trades. Then, rather than guess at email addresses, we found the exact page on each company's own website where you submit an enquiry and recorded it. About 2,100 confirmed routes into named companies across roughly 800 cities and towns — Mortenson, Turner, Pepper, Berglund and some 2,000 more. Nine in ten are in the five Midwest states. That sweep is complete — 100% coverage of the commercial general contractors in the territory, not a sample of them. Because it chased every GC rather than whoever happened to be listed for sale, the firms on this list average about 3.5× the size of those on a bought list. |

Not sure what is a fair rate for contact data?
Below is a table of a client example! Seven quotes, taken from each vendor's own site for —
single-family construction, SIC 1521 / 1522.
One note to consider, we price as premium among all providers that have volume. We also source contacts that these providers cannot physically provide, genuinely untapped leads!

List price50¢
50¢ quoted and 50¢ effective — there is no range to average. 357,616 distinct builder contacts on SIC 1521 / 1522 — 283,355 mailbox-verified, a further 25,636 on catch-all domains and 35,380 not yet tested. The deduplication and the suppression scrub happen before delivery. The file is yours to keep and carries eight contactable fields per person. |

| LeadsPlease | 275,000 | 42¢ | Own / one-time | Direct mail; email is an add-on | |
|
List price25¢
Quoted at 25¢ for 439,745 records. Between a quarter and a half do not survive deduplication and deliverability checks, leaving roughly 220,000 to 330,000 usable — an average of 275,000. Against that the real cost is 33 to 50¢, shown here as its midpoint of 42¢. The file is built for direct mail; email is an add-on.

Quoted at 15¢ for 384,000 emails. Roughly a quarter to a half fall away, leaving 190,000 to 290,000 usable — an average of 240,000 — and a real cost of 20 to 30¢, shown as its midpoint of 25¢. Only about 90,000 of the companies in the file carry an email address at all.

List price30¢
Quoted at 30¢ for 61,000 emails, leaving 31,000 to 46,000 usable — an average of 39,000 — at a real cost of 40 to 60¢, shown as its midpoint of 50¢. The file is phone-verified and NCOA-processed, which is why it starts highest; the shrinkage still applies on top.
|
|||||
| Apollo.io | 28,000 | 2¢ | Rent / year | Verified; export caps on low tiers | |
|
List price2¢
2¢ quoted and 2¢ effective — the records are verified, so little is lost and no averaging is needed. The catch is the terms, not the price: the file is rented. It stops working the day you stop paying, and lower tiers cap how much you may export, so the headline count is not what you can take out.
|
|||||
| BookYourData | 42,000 | 20¢ | Own / one-time | SIC 1521 + 1522, work email | |
|
List price3¢
The clearest example on the page. Quoted at 3¢ for 169,767 rows — the cheapest headline here — but about three quarters do not survive, leaving roughly 42,000 real contacts. The true cost works out at 12 to 28¢, shown as its midpoint of 20¢: between four and nine times the advertised rate.
|
|||||
| Hunter.io | 4,000 | 2¢ | Rent / year | Verified; best for pattern inference | |
|
List price2¢
2¢ both ways on verified records. The limit is volume, not quality: 3,886 emails across 1,414 companies is a fraction of the market. Its real strength is working out a company's address pattern rather than supplying a list, and it is rented, not owned.
|
|||||
| Snov.io | 3,000 | 3¢ | Rent / year | Verified; unlimited export | |
|
List price3¢
3¢ both ways, verified, with no export cap — the most generous terms of the rented options. But 3,446 companies will not cover a national campaign, and the file stops working when the subscription does.
